BLINDNESS - Jose Saramago

The first blind man, the thief, the doctor, the girl with dark glasses, the boy with the squint, the old man. Nobody has a name in ''Blindness.'' Indeed, there are no proper names of any kind. The city in which this catastrophic epidemic of blindness breaks out is never identified. There are no street names. This is any city at almost any point in the modern era. This is everybody's disaster.

Bleak, brutal but enlightening. Truly a novel worth looking out for.
